INSIDE THE CLUB- ATLANTA

Inside the club is a series where I look at the club and analyse where it is going so I will start here with one of the most likeable clubs- it is Atlanta from seri a.

Atalanta B.C. was Founded in 1907 by some Swiss students in the gym of the Liceo Classico Atalanta plays in blue-and-black vertically striped shirts, black shorts and black socks. The club stadium is the 21,300 seat Atleti Azzurri d’Italia.

The club won the Coppa Italia in 1963 and reached the Cup Winners’ Cup semi-final in 1988 when it was still competing in Serie B. This is still the best ever performance by a non-first division club in a major UEFA competition (together with Cardiff City)

The club qualified for the 2019–20 UEFA Champions League, reaching the competition for the first time in their history, as they finished 3rd in the 2018–19 Serie A season. This represented the highest finish in the league in the club’s history.

Atlanta is very likeable because they are the underdogs in Itlay,Their best players always go to bigger clubs like Inter and A.C. Milan. They will play the champions league for the first time in their history.

Key to all this success has been their manager Gian Piero Gasperini who has transformed his team which used to be in mid-table to champions league contender.

The most integral part to Gasperini success has been Atlanta’s academy.Atlanta has one of the best academies in the world and this statement is confirmed with cies football laboratories who in 2014 said that they had the 8 best academy in the world.

The Atalanta youth system not only continued to increase the production of players for the first team but began to win several honours in the most important national leagues. From 1991 to 2014, the various youth teams have won 17 national titles.

Giuseppe Ciatto is the man responsible for founding the academy in the 1940s, and the whole project was given the crucial revamp in 1991 when current club president Antonio Percassi hired Bonaccorso to run the show at the Zingonia-based academy.

Atlanta’s youth setup does not teach in a proper instead they teach their students techniques of every position.

Antonio one said-

“Let’s forget about shapes and formations – 3-5-2, 4-3-3, 4-5-1, they’re all just phone numbers if the players can’t execute the technique correctly,”.

Along with this astute signing like of  Duván Zapata and Josip Iličić have helped the team become stronger.

Gasperini has put up a team which might contest Napoli as they might not face the problem of squad depth which a lot of teams have as they have 74 players on loan and if 1/3  of them come back they would have no problem.

Gasperini looks to have found a perfect home and is the right person to take forward the club.

Atlanta has a very good fan base and they have the perfect captain in Papu Gomez. They look very stable and will become bigger if they have the same intensity of the game.

They are a fairly attacking side as they have scored 61 and have the best attack in Itlay, they have a fairly good defence who have just conceded 30 goals.Expected goals suggest that they have performed at a fair rate and the performance will be sustained.

Atlanta looks to be in very good shape and I hope they continue to progress at the rate they have done in the past couple of years.
