There are a lot of countries who produce great players at a single position. This is generally because of the system of football played in the country, so here is a list of 5 countries who produce great players at a single position.

  1. Brazil-Defensive, central midfielders

Brazil is generally considered as a country who produce great attacking talent but vey fewer people notice how good their central midfield is.

People like Fabhinio, Fernandhino, Casimero, Arthur and Allan have just come up in the last 10 years. This has happened because they are encouraged to play in defensive midfield by their coaches, and some quotes used by these coaches are- one might be called a volante de marca—a steering wheel.

These guys coming through as Brazil has produced a lot of great’s like Dunga and Zito. I think this kind of amazingly skilled defensive midfielders will always come through Brazil as they basically know how to not be beaten by skill and also know how to pass.

2. Germany- Goalkeepers

Germany has produced a lot of great goalkeepers over the years and most of them have been World’s best at a certain time. Like Oliver Khan was the best goalkeeper during the millennium, Jens Leman was one of the best keepers in the 2006 World cup, Manuel Neuer was the best keeper during the 2014 World Cup, Ter Stegen has probably been the best keeper this year.

These keepers are technically the best, knows how to deal with the ball and are great in shot stopping. Manuel Neuer had invented the now -very common sweeper keeping.

Some other goalkeepers from Germany include- Kevin Trap, Bernd Leno, Sepp Mayer, Rene Adler and Timo Horn.

Germany will always produce great goalkeepers Because keepers are held in higher esteem in Germany than in some other countries, for example in England or the USA.

In Germany, the keeper isn’t just the one they put in goal because he isn’t good enough to play outfield. For example, it’s not unusual for a keeper in Germany to be voted “Bundesliga player of the year”. By contrast, it almost never happens in England.

3. Spain- central, Attacking Midfielders

Spain has produced some great attacking midfielders over the last 20 years. This generally has happened because of the success of big academies like F.C. Barcelona’s La Masia who have produced the likes Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas and Thiago. Some other greats of the game which have come from there are – Santi Cazorla, David Silva and some young players coming through from there are- Marco Asensio, Isco, Briaz Mendez, Koke and Saul.

Spain produces this level of talent in midfield because of teams encouraging players more to pass, dribble and just show their attacking flair and unlock the defence.

I think that Spain will continue to produce such kind of amazing players because of the kind of attacking game their clubs play.

4. Portugal- Fullbacks

Portugal has started producing great fullbacks over these years. These players are generally well technical, systematic, fast and team players. These include the likes of  Joao Cancelo,Cedric Suarez, Nelson Samedo, Fabio Coentrao, Raphael Guerrero, Ricardo Parera, Mario Rui and Diego Dalot.

Portugal seems to produce a lot of fullbacks because they are generally taught as wingers which benefits them a lot in attacking and centre backs which helps them in defending.

I think that Portugal will keep producing these kinds of players because the clubs there constantly keep losing them and do not have a lot of money to replace so they just bring youth.

5. Argentina- Strikers

Argentina has produced great strikers forever. These include the likes of- Higuain,Messi,Aguero , Icardi, Tevez, Maradona, Gabriel Batistuta and Hernan Crespo,

This line of the strikers has not stopped yet as the players like- Dybala,Givioni Simeone,Lautaro Martinez,Christian Pavon and Angel Correa have recently come through.

I think Argentina produce these kinds of strikers because Argentinian league football is simply less intense than The Champions League style and the defenders and midfielders are less dynamic and flexible regarding the mental and physical transition between defence and attack. It creates an old fashioned, one-dimensional player.

There isn’t that high pressing, aggressive game of thrust and   you get in The CL and top leagues.

The key thing about Argentinian league football is that it is quite passive and if there’s no early goal then games can just drift and die.

It is a game of low chance ratios and also low goals averages so that probably puts a premium on wily, deadly finishers in the Aguero mould.
